Skål International Kuala Lumpur walks the walk!
Skål International Kuala Lumpur doesn’t just talk the talk. The Club’s members walk the talk, and also walk the walk…
More than fifty per cent of members jumped out of bed at a most unholy hour to turn up on a bright Saturday morning at 0700 hours at the Royal Lake Gardens in Kuala Lumpur.
All attired in the Club’s official t-shirts, the excited ready-to-go early birds participated in an early morning session of Tai Chi, hosted by former President Shirley Lai, followed by a brisk active walk through the beautiful and picturesque Royal Lake Gardens situated in downtown Kuala Lumpur.
The Tun Abdul Razak Heritage Park, or more popularly known as the Royal Lake Gardens, is one of Kuala Lumpur’s lushest green lungs and one of the favorite places to visit in Kuala Lumpur. The Gardens are not only a serene breathing space from the hustle and bustle of the city but are also alive with plenty of fun attractions.
The sprawling Royal Lake Gardens park offers plenty, from manicured gardens to rugged paths, to beautifully designed bamboo playhouses by the lake that make the perfect setting for a picnic. There is a deer park within the vicinity and several chicken coops nearby with free-range chickens roaming freely, not designed to be poached for chicken curry or Kapitan Chicken, mind you...
After almost a two-hour pleasant and brisk stroll around the Royal Lake Gardens, in the company of Skålleagues camaraderie amidst lush flora and fauna, the latter consisting of deer, chickens, a flower garden’s paradise of Malaysian butterflies species, a man-made sprawling lake of koi fish and zebra loaches, tortoises and the sounds of ubiquitous frogs cacophony, (not to mention the odd ‘biawak’ (local monitor lizard); the shy creatures, slinking away from human activity, the Skålleagues congregated at the iconic Rebong Restaurant, operated by one of Malaysia’s renowned chefs who constructed the restaurant to emulate his grandmother’s kampung (village) house, and serves typically ethnic Malaysian food which has earned 5-star rating in various food critiques and blogs.
Breakfast at the iconic Rebong Restaurant
Local breakfast delicacies like nasi lemak with all the traditional condiments, Indian mamak mee goreng and roti canai or roti prata in some places, Malay lontong, and other delectable, mouth-watering local favorites were presented to the hungry but rejuvenated Skålleagues, who wasted no time in tucking into this delicious and very welcome breakfast feast.
President Mahendran spearheaded this event, and in his welcome address at the Rebong Restaurant, he used the opportunity to welcome Rowena Hawkins, a transferee from Skål International Hong Kong, to Skål International Kuala Lumpur, as well as update the Skålleagues on upcoming events, particularly the Skål International Kuala Lumpur Christmas Event to which he cordially extended the Club’s invitations out to each and every Skålleague from all of the Region’s and International Skål International Clubs.
Keep the Date. December 11th, 2025, in Kuala Lumpur!
